My Joy In Gardening

I took to gardening when I was in my early thirties when a friend suggested it might help me to relax when I was under a lot of stress. I really didn’t know where to begin but she very gradually introduced me to the basics and donated some of her cuttings and divided plants and away I went. I became hooked very quickly and found weeding to be one of the most therapeutic elements of gardening. You can’t beat hoeing out those little critters that try to dominate my rather lovely if somewhat haphazard borders. As I have moved house twice, since I’ve taken up gardening, it has been hard each time letting go of the memories that each garden brings but as soon as I have arrived at a new house I have set to creating new memories.  Another love that has developed from this is visiting gardens and some of my favourite visits have been to The Chelsea Flower Show,  The Eden Project, Sissinghurst Castle ( go in the spring for the daffodils),   Alnwick Castle Gardens  & RHS Garden Harlow Carr. My favourite plant…hmm…that’s a tough call. I think it has to be daffodils.  The first daffodils are always heartwarming after a bleak cold winter & I love the idea of Spring being just around the corner.
